The engine had entered upon the siding- where the trucks are placed, a distance of some 300 yards m advance, but the momentum having been lessened by the reversion of the engine, the trucks were run into with but slight force. Fortunately, it was bright moonlight. The engine was fitted with the ordinary " cow catcher," which first threw or lifted a horse-box against a wagrgon m front. The horse-box was forced back m a damaged state against the face of the engine so that the "cab " of the engine was bent. The wasrgon m front of the horse-box was damaged, but no serious injury ot Hurt was done to goods, man, or cattle. Our own Correspondent, writing, yesterday, from Alexandra, says : — Tawhiao was m the vicinity of the settlement last week, looking for some medical comforts for his wife, who is ill with consumption.
