WAIKATO COUNTY.
Sib,— l see by your report of the meeting at Cambridge, re Cambridge County, that Coimcillor Kirkwood, m moving a resolution, made use of words to the following effect, that if they had been m his ■ place m the Waikato County Council, they would have seen the necessity of taking steps to form a new County (I have not the paper by me, and quote from memory). I was under the impression, and am of the same opinion still, that Councillor Kirkwood must have been incorrectly reported, and fully expected to see his contradiction m your last issue. As it stands at present, it appears aa if meant to lead the public, especially the Cambridge public, to believe that the Waikato County Council had attempted, or shown a disposition to deal unfairly with the Cambridge Hiding,- and kept on doing it, which was simply frustrated by by the vigilance of their representatives, whereas nothing could be further from the truth.— l am, &c, W. Cummiko. Hamilton East, Oct. 25, 1878.
