HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
PROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.
WELLINGTON, last night. Mr Barton has undoubtedly scored a point in the report of the gaol committee on his charges against the Wellington police. When these were made- in his speech in the Theatre Royal they were ridiculed as utterly absurd and groundless, but the report shows that they" had considerable foundation and discloses a very unsatisfactory state of police management. To-day has been spent in committee in a lot of prirate Bills. Mr Thomson's Plans of Towns on -.Private Land Regulation Bill monopolising the greater part of the time. Although not at all likely to pass, he refused to accede to the repeatad requests of members not to stop progress. The Nelson and Marlborough men are fighting hard against the Railway Construction Bill.
