[PRESS AGENCY.j AUCKLAND, last night. In reply to the Mayor, tho Government has proclaim°d the 13th November — the day fixed for the Agricultural Show — as a public holiday, instead of the 9th November. The Board of Education to-day received a letter from Mr Tyler, solicitor, informing the Board that, unless £100 was paid to Mr C. K. Smith for wrongful dismissal from the school at Lucas' Creek, which was under his caie, legal proceedings would be taken. The Secretary said that three months' notioe m a registered letter was given to Mr Smith to the effect that his position as a teacher would cease at three months from that date, and a copy was sent to each member of the Committee. Tke Chairman of the Local Committee returned a reply on July 5 to the effect that the dismissal whs illegal, as tbe School Committee had not been consulted. The Chairman thought the matter should be referred to the Executive Committee. The suggestion was adopted. — An application for a teacher's house at Ngaruawahia — also, a well for the school, as the water was not fit for the children to drink was referred to the Executive Committee.
