NGARUAWAHIA.
October 2. Mr 0. J. W. Baeton is doing a good thing m the Life Assurance line, and bids fair to keep all outsiders at a safe distance. I understand that a successor to Mr Edgecumbe ia also flying about. Further comment is unnecessary. The Waikato Steam Navigation Company have fitted up the ' Lady Don,' and intend running her between Port Waikato and Kaipara, m the timber trade, under the command of Captain Armstrong. In reference to the County Council annual elections, I believe Mr E. Fitzpatrick will not stand, and it is doubtful that Major Wilson will. I think that Aye Ngaruawahians must leave the choice of a Councillor to that fast-rising end of the district — Whatawhata, and, should a man from that locality be returned, I trust that fair play will be shown. I see the present Councillor's brother is notified as Returning Officer, but I believe that appointment was made previous to Mr Fitzpatriek's election. The return of cattle killed on the railway for the last three days has been nil.
