Btjckland will hold his second cattle sale of the month at Ohaupo, on Tuesday next, the. 24th inst. £■>- The Office of collecting the depasturing fees for cattle running on waste lands m the Newcastle Highway District is open for application. Tenders will be received until the 3rd of October, by Mr Byron, of Te Kowhi, from whom conditions and particulars may be obtained. Applications will also be received at the same time for performing the duties of Ranger. Tenders for performing work on the road near Mr Fleming's, specifications of which may be seen on application to Mr T. V. Fitzpatrick, will be received by the Chairman of the Newcastle District Board until; Thursday next. Waipa County Council. — A special meeting of the Waipa County Council will be held on Monday next, at Ohaupo, to confirm the resolutions passed at the late meeting of the 26th ult., for the amendment of the representation of the several ridings m the County. It was then agreed that one member should bo taken from the Hamilton Riding, aud given to the Rangiaohia f Riding, and that Pukekura Riding should have un additional member. By the formation of the Borough, aud consequent abstraction of so much area and population from the Hamilton Riding, that riding has ceased to have. any chtim to be represented by two members, whilo Rangiaohia was ulways notoriously under represented. Whatawhata Cemeteey. — The case of the. cemetery was entertained at tho meeting of the Auckland Wasts/&nd.Board, on Thursday. He pointed out that at present they had to go 12 miles to Newcastle to bury their dead. The burial ground at Whatawhata, where the soldiers and sailors killed during "the war were interred, was m a disgraceful -' state, and the bodies were likely to be washed away/ by the river. He suggested chat they should be exhumed and re interred.— The Board agreed to reserve tho 10 acres indicated as a cemetery site. Ritchie^'-Cplonial Bank !of New Zealand, has filen appointed the general manager of the^^ompany m this colony. vSv^r.:".'-^:..--Steike of Woekmen at Taupiei Coal Mines. — -The whole of the miners employed m the Taupiri Company mine have struck work. Three days notice was given by them last Saturday, demanding a rise .of Gdper ton on the coal taken out, contending that the present pay of 2s* 3d per ton did not giyea fair day's wages. A calculation based on the present produce of coal, shews that the desired advance of wages represents £50 a month increase on the company's expenses. Mr Ralph went to. Auckland on Wednesday night, to ; endeavour ,to arrange the dispute. ,i. . ■"•■■.. ' " Puxekuea.— lAn application was entertained at the Auckland Waste Lands Board, on Thursday, from Mr E. Lake, : the Chairman of ,the Pukekura Highway Board, asking, to change the position of a road to a site which the Highway Board thought would be more suitable.
