.., . .To...Walter.JJa^ant^JEbq., Sir, —The subscribers of the testimonial which is this day presented to you, are anxious, by means of this short address, to express their # appi'edtttio&~d£.tthe manner in which you have performed your, duties for nearly twenty years, as mejjiealattendant and Resident - Magistrate at Raglan. ''ln the performance of your duties during that long period, your conduct, has been distinguished by an amount of courtesy and gentlemanly bearing that has Won for you the respect and esteem of all classes of the. community, of which the testimonial and address tins, day presented to you are, they feel,'but a slight recognition. It is not, however, in the performance of your public duties ulone that you have gained their affection and esteem, but by the high integrity and manly straightforwardness which have distinguished you in your e very day intercourse with your fellow colonists, and they feel pleasure in availing themselves, of the opportunity which your retirement from the office of Resident. Magistrate presents to mark the estimation in which you are held. Ever courteous alike to all classes of the community, and ever ready to devote your time and ability to the promotion of a good cause, your friends feel an amount of pleasure which they find a difficulty in expressing in presenting you with this address, and only regret that it should not more fully express their recognition Of your' public services and your private worth. Wishing you, sir, and your family health and happiness, and with an ardent wish that you may be long spared among us, we remain yours truly and affectionately, William Powell.
