Sib,—l see by your issue of the 10th last, that the Borough of Hamilton is in a beautiful fix aa regards her Councillors; two publicly accused of doing what they ought not to do; and a third whom it is currently reported here supplied the vessels for holding the oil necessary for illuminating purposes in the Council Chambers. Although no luxury, still, he must stand in the same boat with the others. It is hard, I know. He would not be guilty of a mean actisn, but still the Municipal Corporations Act does not admit ©f one Councillor enlightening the others', and then presenting his bill. This does, indeed, seem very short-sighted policy of three of your Councillors. A fourth—taking his actions and public opinions into account—might fairly come under part 5, clause 61, sub section 3. Another might easily be procured under part 5, clause 75, —so that altogether you have a very lively time of it. Your correspondent of the 10th instant has only to look into clause 61 of the Municipal Corporations Act for the information he requires. There is apparently a good deal of money for anyone who may like to sue for the same. Any burgess might do it without it being considered Myftwcftjg* and give the proceeds to some the way of metalling the roads. The sooner this sort of work is put a stop to the better. I have been fondly looking forward to the day when Cambridge will be gazetted a Borough, but, until the Hamilton horizon is much clearer than it appears to be at present, I should say—"As You Webb !" Cambridge, Sept. 11, 1878.
