He 1 did’hot see why provincial officers should be entitled to; their allowances j ■ their I ime should,be counted from a the time when they joined the General Government. -Provincial Servants in Auckland were not entitled to pensions, and yet they performed their work better tli an General Government officials. His sympathy was not with Civil Servants, but with the Carpenters and bricklayers of Auckland, ‘ who, before he same away, worked only two days a week in consequence of the weather. The present Government had promised retrenchment, but so far had shown very little of it. . .
