■ **'. smr '■'' August 20. The ,a.B. Ha^^p r Mokau called in here on her Wsytto-tne Mokau, on her maiden trip. She returned here on Tuesday, leaving again after an hour's stay, for -vVJanakau. to put -back again, through the .roughness of the sea, and left again on Saturday, the weather having somewhat i*6derated. The skipper reports being well- received by the JViokau natives. Reri, and Te Witere, with many of his* friends visited the vessel, expressing their delight at her arrival in that = harbour. ' : She took away with her on Saturday, Dr Harearit and family* v Dr Harsatit, our late arid respected Resident Magistrate, having retired on a well earned pension, after a long and faithful service of a quarter of a century.. By the Doctors departure, the Raglan community will suffer a loss which will not easily be replaced. A. Bum of upyrards of £40 has been subscribed by the settlers? in the district, with; a- : view to presenting Dr Harsant with a silver tea service, as a token of the esteem and regard in which he was held, and as a memento for the many kindnevlses which one and all in the district had received at his hands.: "The natives havei finished the bush falling on the Waipa road, They appear anxious "for* further employment on the mountain road. ' r : ; The large whare, which Tawhiao requested'the! natives' to erect at the Heads is nearly finished. It is supposed that when it is completed, Tawhiao will again, honour Raglan with his presence. Natives state, most likely he will not make his intended visit until the summer. ■' The weather has ;been extremely bois* terous.for the past few days. A. three-masted steamer was observed outside ;the bar yesterday afternoon, *"• whjph, from the length of time it hovered about the entrance, was supposed to have met with an accident. The tide was going out j and bar very rough. Towards evening she was observed to be bearing for the Manakau. As last night was a calm night, it is to be hoped she will, if in. distress j- haye: reached the Manakau this morning safely. — Own Correspondent. ' ■''
