Correspondence.
Sir, —If you will kindly contradict the statements re Football, in your issue of the Ist August, copied from a South n paper, you will oblige footballists generally. I will give you the facts of the case. Mr Jacobs, of Wanganui, did not have his knee dislocated, as he wai able to walk about the next day, and Mr Fitrgerald hadn't a broken rib in his body, but his death was caused from congestion of the lungs, brought on from taking a cold bath, after playing in a football match, thereby causing a sudden chill, while in a state of perspiration. Football players have a good deal to contend against, and such articles are liable to lead public opinion to condemn the game.—l have, &c, E. Davy, Wellington Football Club. Wellington, 6th August, 1878.
