WHATAWHATA

A WADDING in this district ia not such a common occurrence that we can afford to pass it without notice, especially such a wedding as that which took place last Wednesday. The happy couple were natives, and through the kindness of the school committee, the schoolroom was obtained for the ceremony. The bride was very pretty, and showed extremely well, and the bridegroom gave convincing proof that full dress now-a-days is very different to what it was in the gold old times, when it often consisted of an old pair of boots and a red necktie, and no ministers. Those who officiated were Heta Tanawhiti, and Hami Ngaropi. In addition to the marrying, several children -were christened. This indicates progress in Christianity, as the parents of some of these little ones have, until recently, been notable Hauhaus- I need scarcely mention that the attendance at the wedding was large and enthusiastic, including several Europeans. In the evening dancing commenced, and the natives gave another proof of their danoing abilities. Beer and other refreshments were provided in, abundance. The proceedings wound up with " God * Save the Queen," and the bridal pair were escorted to their whare by a large concourse.—Own COBEESPONDENT.
