CAMBRIDGE COUNTY.

Sib, —.After reading the report of the public meeting at Cambridge respecting new County, I think I will say, with Mr Firth, let well alone, at any rate until after this present session, to see what it may bring forth. 1 will also say that any suggestion from Mr Firth should have received more respect, and not contempt, that word was used, but modified for appearance. If Mr Firth is to be treated with contempt when he is able to fight his battles, what may he expect if he was down' with a couple of Cam bridge Councillors sitting on him, or what may a fifty acre man expect from them. I, as a ratepayer in Pukeriinu, object to the foundation of the New County being, might is right. I shall also object to the New County, as it is proposed to override the road boards, whose power, fairness and usefulness has been felt in every part of the province. I would also object, on the ground of complication, if Pukerimu is taken into Cambridge County boundaries, also, that it will rob the road boards of one third of their revenue. The road boards may be called the very essence of local self-government, and instead of creating a swell council to snuff them out, I think it would be better to enlarge their powers, as a reward for past services. At any rate, after reading the high handed remarks of the meeting, I shall look at tb<* proceedings of the promoters with distrust.—l have, &c, Chows Nest.. * When you wish to Furnish your House obtain a Book Catalogue from the City Hall Arcade, which contains valuable information, net only enumerating what can be obtained there but showing the cost of Furnishing a Three, Four, Five, and Six-roomed House j also, Drawingroom saparately, and Bachelors' Rooms.
