BOROUGH ENGINEERING.
Sib,— -The ratepayers of Hamilton ought, after the letter on the above iv your issue of this morniug, congratulate themselves upon having bucli a faithful aud fearless "Watch Dog" to guard their interests aiid proteot them from having their funds wasted m the manner he describes, lam greatly obliged to "Watch Dog" for hie anxiety about my reputation, but it appears to me that he knows far more of the real state of things than he professes. In the first part of his letter, he asks, "are the Council doing the work themselves, or is their Engineer conducting operations ! " Iv the latter portion, he clearly shows that he is well able to answer his owu question, or wherefore his last two assertions. However, as I am informed that many of the ratepayers are really as ignorant of my true position with the Council as he professes to be, I take the opportunity of informing them, by giving a direct answer to Watch Dog's query. I am not " conducting operations, neither have I ever been consulted thereon. — I have, &c, William Bbeackell. Hamilton, July 20, 1878.
