We hold over the leading article and other matter to enable us to give in full the important discussion at the special meeting of the Waikato County Council, at which the Tamahere riding was disfranchised—one member being given to Cambridge, and the other to Kirikiriroa. The Kerosene sold in Hamilton by Mr John Knox has been tested in Auckland, and, as will be seen by advertisement, is perfectly safe for domestic purposes, flashing at not lower than 112 degrees, or six higher than the standard of safety. Me Buokdahd's first Whatawhata cattle sale takes place on Tuesday, !^^ Waipa Election.—Mr F. A. Whitaker and Mr McMinn are to meet the electors this afternoon at Alexandra. The Sons op Ulster hold an emergency meeting on Monday evening, in the Victoria Hall, Hamiton. Odd Fellows.—A special meeting of the Loyal Hamilton Lodge, will be held in the lodge room, Hamilton East, for the election of officers, on Tuesday evening next. Messes. J. D. and K. Hill will hold their fortnightly sale of produce, &c, in Hamilton this afternoon. They will also sell 30,000 Nelson quicks, 50 cases of Hobarton apples, and fruit trees. A SALE OP FRUIT, FOREST, AND ORNAMENTAL trees, from the nursery of Mr John Sharp will be held by Mr S. Bright, this day, at noon, at Alexandra, opposite Finch's Alexandra Hotel. Messrs Gee & Potter, Coachbuilders, of Auckland, advertise for a share of Waikato patronagej and announce that they have always on hand iron-bark shafts, spokes, felloes, blue gum, and all kinds of hard wood.
Concrete Granary.—By Monday next, at noon, tenders for the construction of a concrete granary at Lamb's Mill, Ngaruawahia, must be sent into the architect, Mr T. H. White. An alteration has been made in the Waikato postal time-table. Mails for Alexandra and intermediate offices will for the present, pending further arrangements, close at the Hamilton office on the usual days at 12 (noon) instead of 1.30 p.m., as heretofore.
Cambridge Ploughing Match. —We understand that Mr A. V. Macdonald has consented to allow teams men and ploughs, leaving Auckland and intermediate stations for the ploughing match to come off at Cambridge on the 11th prox? —to travel at a single fare for the up and down trip.
At the conference held in Auckland o Thursday, to consider the draft Bill of th*. Waikato - Thames railway, the seventh clauses were considered and agreed to—the principal discussion being on the rating clauses. A motion made by the Mayor of Hamilton, " That the rating nhould commence at the next station to Hamilton," was lost. Some opposition to the Cambridge branch was also raised, but over-ruled by Waikato members of the conference.
Looking at an old filo of the ' Lyttleton Times' yesterday, of date 18th April last, we came upon the following choice piece of news, telegraphed to that paper by its Auckland correspondent:—" JSheop are being sold in the "Waikato district at 4s 6d per dozen on account of the scarcity of food in consequence of the prolonged drought." Feed was never more plentiful than last summmer, nor have Ave yet come to sell our sheep by the dozen. The ' Lyttleton limes' would do well to look for a mare reliable correspondent; such as it has would be dear at 4s 6d per "bunch.
It is satisfactory to learn that there is good reason to believe that the culprit in the case of the supposed robbery of clothes from the back premises of the .National Bank was the wind! One of the tablecloths was found, evidently blown away, at some little distance, and probably the other Avas blown further, picked up, and stuck to as tolsam and jetsam by some not over-scrupulous person.
