AUCKLAND, last night. The conference on the Bill of the Thames "Valley Railway continued to-day. Several amendments were made with reference to compensation, fencing, running of cheap trains, etc. The Bill was finally adopted, and the Chairman instructed to forward it to the Government. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Mr C. S. Reeves and Mr R. Olivier were named for the city today. The show of hands was largely in favor of Mr Reeves. A poll takes place on Monday. At the meeting of the National Insurance Company to-day, it was resolved to take advantage of the provisions of the Joint Stock Companies Act. WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
The following tenders have been received for the Ohaupo contract of the Kaipara-Puniu railway :—Accepted : Mr W. Faughy, Auckland, £23,516. Declined: Mr Fallon, Auckland, £23,952 ; Mi Jay, Wellington, £25,712; Messrs Topham and Angus, £32,428; Messrs Ross and Danaher, £33,363 ; Mr Allan Macguire, ,£33.734.
This afternoon, the Chamber of Commerce unanimously passed a resolution to use its utmost influence in favor of Mr Macandrew's proposal to encourage direct steam communication between England and New Zealand. The question of porb of call was purposely avoided. REEFTON, Wednesday.
It has been snowing here for nearly a week, and still continues, with no prospect of an immediate cessation. The season promises to be one of unprecedented severity. The surrounding mountains are heavily Joadecl with snow. All communication is cut off, except by telegraph. WAITARA, last night. Special trains brought great numbers of people to the meeting. A procession, headed by Rewi, marched through the township to the place of meeting, at 10 o'clock. Kewi, addressing various tribes, J welcomed them to Waitara. A
