FRIGHTFUL RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

MR JAMES FOLEY RUN OTER AND KIXLED. A most terrible accident occurred yesterday evening, a few hundred yards from the Ouehunga Railway Station, (says the ' Herald' of Wednesday.) The last train from Auckland had got within that distance of its destination, when oue of the passengers in the las'; carriage thought the train gave a curious jump. The guard was communicated with, and the train returned slowly, and when between 200 and 300 yards from the station a most frightful spectacle met the gaze of those on board the engine. A man was found lying on the rails, horribly mangled and dead. The head was very much bruised, and to all appearance the skull was fractured. A great gash was across the mouth, as if the unfortunate man had been caught by the cowcatcher. The right arm was almost severed from the body, being only attached to it by a fragment of skiu. The right leg was sadly bruised, and apparently broken *in several places. The truuk of the body appeared also to have received -a severe crushing. No doubt existed upon the minds of those who saw the body that death had been instantaneous. The body was uiken back to the station, where it was examined by a number of people. For some time doubts existed as to the identity of the unfortunate pensou, but at last all doubts were set at rest by Sergeant Green finding in one of the pockets of the clothes of the deceased a letter which proved that Mr James Foley, well known iu Otahuhu and Onehuuga, was the victim of this accident. Mr Foley came up from Tauranga recently, and was in Auckland for several hours yesterday visiting some friends. When he returned to Onehunga has not yet been ascertained, but doubtless many additional facts will be elicited at the inquest, which will probably bo held to-day or to-morrow. Mr Foley was about 40 years of age, and, we believe, married.
