They declare that their experiment., have been altogether successful, and that by a judicious, application of

their oil -those destructive inroads, which every farmec has occasion to deplore, can be prevented. bo powerful a remedy h^ot course to be used with care ; and the^direction is to add a wine glass of paralhu oil to a thirty-gallon cask of watei , to mix them thoroughly, and, when it has settled, to skim off the od on the surface. The water can then be employed for soaking the seed before use, or for sprinkling the ground between the rows or drills attar the plants have brairded. The oil is so obnoxious to animal life as to almost, if not entirely, secure the safety of the plant.
