FARM PESTS.

In an article on the c Pes'cs of the farm and their remedy,' the ' Implement Manufacturers' jfteview remarks : — * Among the pests doing irreparable injury ta the cropß may be mentioned tho jvorm, the maggot, the fly, and insects generally ; and various have been the devices that have Jbeen resorted to with the view of destroying ttheym y without at the same time destroying Aye crops upon Avhich they are th ying. The subject has for some time engaged the attention of one of the Paraffin|Oil Companies, and they have been mal-ino- a series of experiments to ascertain whether their paraffin oil can be applied so as to* bo obnoxious to animal life, and at the same "time produce no injurious effects on the seeds and plants. They declare that their experiment., have been altogether successful, and that by a judicious, application of

their oil -those destructive inroads, which every farmec has occasion to deplore, can be prevented. bo powerful a remedy h^ot course to be used with care ; and the^direction is to add a wine glass of paralhu oil to a thirty-gallon cask of watei , to mix them thoroughly, and, when it has settled, to skim off the od on the surface. The water can then be employed for soaking the seed before use, or for sprinkling the ground between the rows or drills attar the plants have brairded. The oil is so obnoxious to animal life as to almost, if not entirely, secure the safety of the plant.
