ExrtioaivK Lvmps.—A correspondent, writing to the 'Now Zcalandcr' gives the following recipe for preventing kerosene lamps from exploding. It i» not new, but yet it is not generally known:—" Take a toaspoonful of table or common, salt, and drop this :-alt in the bottom of the globe, or that part of the lamp containing the oil. Bad Kkrosiine. —A. ready and a sure way of getting rid of the danger of bad korosiuc has been proposed. The Customs authorities at Wellington have offered to have all parcels of kerosino tested upon arrival, provided the Corporation renders the necessary assistance. The' New Zealand Times' says there are 15,000 cases afloat for Wellington alone, and that if all kerosene be condemned which flashes at a less heat than 110 degress, the loss to New Zealand merchants will be from £60,000 to £7 ',OOO. This may be B), but on the other hand Dr Hector states that such oils can be rendered safe by a simple process of rectification, that will not cost o per cent. In any case, are the public to use dangerous oil's that the merohonts may not suffer by, to say the least, imprudent ventures. " La Ouosse."—lt has been airanged that tho " Frontier La Crosse Club" play an exhibition game at Cambridge on Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m. The sides will be Married v. tingle. The Alexandra Club goes over at the solicitation of some of the Cambridge people, amongst whom arc Messrs Mcintosh, Chitty, and j others, who are anxious to start a club in that district. "La Crosse" is a game which only requires to be bettor known to become a very popular one in this district, affording more room for skill and quite as good an opportunity for vigorous exercise as football, and without the very objectionable tendency to accident which football has when played under the regulations iu general effect. We trust that the Alexandra Club will this winter make a proselytising tour through the Waikato townships with the object of making the game more generally known than it is. Clubs might be formed iu the several districts „both by men and lads. The Crosje is not an expensive implement, and beyond the ball is the only one necessary for the' game. No doubt hero will, should the weather prove hue on Saturday, be a gjod muster at Cambridge not only of players, but of the general public.
