WAIKATO PASTORAL AND AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.
A Committee Meeting of the Pastoral and Agricultural Associa tion was held at Ohaupo, on Tuesday. Present : Mr A. Cox (Chairman), Messrs E. Lake, W, Taylor, Wainwrighb, Storey, Hill, Byron, McNicol,Hodson, A. Buttle, Brown, Mandeno, and S. Steele. After some preliminaries had been gone through, the question of holding the next show under the auspices of the Society was considered. Mr E_. Hill said that, .m his opinion, the show ought to be held at Hamilton. The exhibitors could for wand their stock, &c, by river and rail. Mr Lake considered ?that the question was one for the general body to decide. jL Mr Buttle said the Cambiidge Faimers' Club had serious thoughts of holding their show at .Hamilton. In fact that was their present idea. A resolution to the following effect was moved 'by Mr E^ Lake, and carried : — That prior to definite arrangements being made for holding a show m the spring, a committee be appointed to confer with the .Camhridge Farmers' Club m. order to ascertain the possibility, of holding a joint exhibition. Mr Byron wanted a definite time fixed for the putting m of the report; of the Committee. At present ifc was too indefinite. - Say, a month. ' Mr S. Steele thought that, at all events, preparations should go on while the Conference was sitting. In accordance with Mr Byron's motion, it was agreed that the report of the Committee should be brought up on the second Tuesday m July. ; Mr Steele suggested that a general;: Commtfctee should be at once' appointed to carry oujb the- arrange? meats m case the Conference should! fall through. ' He Amoved .thqit Messrs Storey and Steele be appointed a Sub-Committee for tiat purpose. Mr H. Hicks ( aad Mr H. Reynolds were .elected a Committee m place of Messrs. Gooftfellajff and J. B. Whyte. (t 7 Mr Byron said there was another matter foreign to the show business. It was the receafe scab case. It appeared to him that an^ person who was perhaps ignorant of ycab could brand the whole district. Something of the \ same kind happened to him about eighteen months ago. It appeared to him the proper plan wtfs to riise a subscription and trf the case. It was better than appealing to Government. Popular enthuisasm would die out, aid it was oetter tp cany on the m^ter at once.
Mr Like thought the matter was not proved. If Mr Jolly was aggrieved he had his remedy by action. If scab was proved, Mr Jolly was quite iv the wrong Mr Battle pioposed, artd Mr Lake seconded, "That Messrs MoNicol, Brown, and S. Steele be appointed a Committee to confer with the Committee appoin ted by the Cambridge Farmers' Club." This motion was carried by acclamation.
