The private secretary to the Marquis of Normanby telegraphed to Sydney that His Excellency had not received any intimation of his appointment to tho Governorship of New South Wales. The Auckland City Council has accepted Marks' tender of £5,900 for extension of water mains. CHRISTCHRCH, yesterday. 110,000 tons of grain have already been carried over the railway, where last year only 87,600 tons were carried for the whole season. HOKIANGA., Tuesday. The Hon. the Native Minister and party arrived here this morning. There was a great reception, and addresses were presented from the County Council and Native Chiefs. Mr Sheehan is invited to dinner at 7 o'clock this evening by the Native Chiefs. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Mr Seymour Thorne George has received a requisition from the Hokitika electors, inviting him to beoome a candidate for the representation of that district m Parliament. Mr George .has replied complying with the request, and stating that he will visit the district. Mr Gerald George Fitzgerald has also announced himself as a candidate for the Assembly, for the seat vacated fey Mr Button. NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. Major Brown, Civil Commissioner calls for tenders m to-day's ' Herald,' for erecting three buildings at Waitara, to be completed by the 19 th of June, and removing the same, for the purpose of holding the forthcoming native meeting. Tenders I are also called for bread, potatoes, flour, and sugar.
