RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Hamilton, June 12, 1878. (Before W. N. Searancke, Esq., R.M.) Walter Langdon was charged with wilfully and violently assaulting a boy named John Innis, by striking him on the head with a shingling hammer, at the Railway Station near Hamilton on the 11th inst. Sergeant McGovern stated the case, and called three witnesses. It seemed from the evidence that the boy Innis aggravated the accused to a great extent by calling him names. Sergeant McGovern said he did not know of anything against the prisoner, who resided at Cambridge for a length of time, and so far as ho (the Sergeant) knew, was well conducted. Fined 10s and costs ; m default seven days. The amount was at once paid.
