ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
CAMBRIDGE BEAXCH. A mkei lxg of the above associatiou. was held m the National Hotel on Tuesday, last. Present : lilajor . - Clare (jii the chair), Messrs Jas; Ruriciman (Secretary), John Runcimazi, -P. Hicks, E. B. Walker, and.G-. E. Clarke. The Chairman stated that the object of the meeting was to receive the report oi' the gentlemen who were deputed to examine the damage done to 1 trees by hares at Mr Hicks' and other places Mr Rancinian then reported as follows: — Four gentlemen (Messrs t'lajckej Kirkwood, Sharp, and himself) had* visited Messrs Hicks and Eeynold's farms, and examined tlio damage done to trees by hares, and they were, prepared to substantiate Mr Hicks' statements m every particular, arid would proposo that the parent Society should ba requested to have the law.»o> framed that .every farmer should be allowed to kill hare 3 on his own holdings. ' * ' ' ' Mr E. B. Walker moved the adoption of the report;, and the Secretary be requested to write to the parent Society, . and forward the resolution contained therein. Mr John lluncjbaian, seconded the .motion, and it was carried unanimously. .■ . iMr Hicks *'said . that . m order to .work with perfect confidence the Colonial Secretary should be asked to give the names of those' leading- settlers who constituted themselves a. deputation, and who so flatly contradicted the 'assertions of this branch of tho Society. This branch of the Society was a recognised body, and,it was, a very underhand thing for any persons .outside' to'; constitute i hemselves ! a J deputation to flatly contradict what they -had asserted.
