ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
CAMBRIDGE BRANCH,
Present :— Major Clare, (m the chair) Messrs James Kunciinan, (Secretary) F- Hicks, Moon, Roberb Kirk wood, E. B. Walker and Maior Hay. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A. letter was also read from the Secretary of the parent Society, Mr Cheeseman, stating that the .Society/ had agreed to recommend jthe Go Avernment to withdraw the protection* from hares. The Secretary stated that ha tetf received another letter frond Mr Cheesemau, requesting' the Gainbridge Branch to re-consider the question of withdrawing the protection from hares, as a letter had been received from a privafe person, stating that the statements made with regard to the damage done by them had been exaggerated. Unfortunately, he had left the letter at ; home, bat if th.9 meeting* would* adjourn, he would 'then produce it,The meeting accordingly agreed" to 1 adjourn till Wednesday evening nex^, at 7 p.m. Monster Turnip.— A large turnip ■ grown on thei estate of the late Mr.; Ilichard Parker at liotoraugi, mn swamp land Was brought into C'amvbridge on Saturday last, Wfe taken out of the ground it \rei<*hadl sixty-three (63) poiuvls. withou? th©---top.
