The telegrams published yesterday by the 'Herald,' containing the statement of Rewi, as to what took place Just Sunday at the meeting at Puniu between himself and Sir George Grey, tend still more to perplex the public mind iv the matter of the late negotiations. They are utterly at variance with the account furnished by the * Herald's' special correspondent who is supposed to have spoken i:ot from inspiration merely but ex cathedra. The public are fairly bewildered, and know not what to believe. In a matter of sach importance as this, m which the colonists are so deeply interested, ifc would not, we think, be too much to expect from any Government, and especially from one which deprecates the conduct of public business wicU closed doors, to issue an authoritative version of what took place at the meeting of Sunday last.
