A serious collapse occured on the Kaipara railway works m extension for the station at Helenwille.
At Arthur's produce sales to-day, fowls iealised Is to 2s Id ; ducks, Is 4d ; geese, 2s 7d; turkeys, Is 3d to 3s Id; potatoes, 2s to 3s ; pumpkins, 3s 9d ; bran, 5s 3d to 5s 6d per bag ; cheese, 3d to 6d ; onions, Id ; salt butter, 4d to lid.
DUNEDIN, Thursday. At a meeting of the City Council, held last night, the reply which will be given to the circular of the Thames Borough Council, regarding the Municipal Corporations Act, was decided upon. It is m effect as follows : — That the Council would prefer to give the Corporations Act a fair trial before making any recommendations for its amendment, and is not inclined to send a delegate at present to represent the Council m Wellington, as ifc is of opinion that no necessity has arisen for the appointment, which would necessarily entail considerable outlay.
Dr Soinerville is drawing large audiences. Queen Street Theatre has been engaged by him for a fortnight.
Mr A. Dornwell has bought Mr McLey's butchering establishment m George Street.

Information from native sources from the Waikato speaks strongly of the decline of Tawhiao's influence. The old Maori mode of worship, as amended and taught by him, is becoming unpopular. He. enc|ea r voured to get Te Kooti to join this faith, but the latter refused. The religion taught by Te Kooti, founded on portions of lhe Old Testament, Is becoming mop popular, every day. Many pilgrimage are being mode to the High Pries*-, who prophecies l;is return to this district, his birthplace, within three years.
