VACCINATION.
Sib, — Variola m the human body, v. sciib m sheep, which would be most destructive m a young Colony ? The above subject is to be brought before the Club at their next meeting, to be held here on the Bth of May. It appears to me that the Waikato County Council lias hung up the Vaccination Act, which Act is compulsory on parents, and the Council is m favour of protecting sheep, as they have got the seoond inspector appointed for the Comity, and not a publio vaccinator m Waikato County. It is over fifty years since I was residing iv a large city, it was full of cotton factories, and iv passing through the streets at the meal hours, when the work people wero going to and fro, every third or fourth person that you met was disfigured by variola. There wus a meeting held m Londou for the purpose of raising money to build a monument to Dr Jennei - . At the meeting was a youug lady, who, when asked to subscribe, jumped, on the floor, aud said no, shif would not subscribe. She culled to the meeting to look here, at the same time pointing to her rosy cheeks, saying cc wh.it Di- Jeu.ui jr has done for ms. I am a living monument to Dr Jenner. Mr Editor, the last time I was m Hamiltou I had the pleasure of seeing a groat number of living monuments to Dr Je tiner, and I hope thoy may be long spared to enjoy their beauty. There was a letter wliich appeared m your paper complaining about having to go from Newcastle to < 'ambri.lge to aDr Walker to geb liis child vaccinated. It must have been Hookie Walker the writer meant ; there litis not been aDr Walker m Cambridge tis public vaccinator for the last fourteen years. Mr Editor, I hope you will give this letter a corner m your paper, that ifc may be the means of getting a publio vaccinator appoluted for each District m the County Waikato.— l am, ite, A Parent, Cambridge, April 25th, 1878.
