The great event of the day was the 'trotting* match, which came off at 3 pi tii. Tli ere were 10 'entries. The course was the main road, between No. 1 Bridge- and the Hamilton Hotel— the. -horses starling at the former point. The first heat was won by Boon's Grey, 'and the second by Mr Swaine's NaugUty ' Boy, aud, •jiu the concluding trial the two, the grey won easily. At 8 |last -nighty as large concourse of people La^-ain assembled in the. main, sr^et to see the fireworks, which had. been provided by Mr G-wynhe as a wind"ivp to the day's amusumc its, and Which formed .indeed hy for the most attractive portion of of it. The pyroteciniical display. was an extensive and excelleut one of. its kind, aud was much' enjoyed, especially by the juvenile' portion of the com niunity, t^ many of whom fireworks of the class exhibited last night were quite a new sensation.
