HARAPEPE.
April 19. A meeting of the Pirongia District Board was held on Saturday, the 13th insfc., in the school-house. Several tenders were received fo do the work required by the Board. The accepted ones were those of Messrs J. Sage, of Alexandra, and W. Livingston. The trustees struck a rate of Is in the £ on the annual value of all rateable property in the district. Many ratepayers seem to be still in a sort of ha 559 or muddle in regard to the alteration by the Government of tho dates. The Government financial year ends on the 31st of March, and last year's rates were struck up to I hat date. Tho trustees are in office until the end July, or any day in that month that thoy fix for the annual meeting of ratepayers, and of course thenpowers are the same the last three months of the twelve as the first which they do not quite understand, *. <?.. the ratepayers. — The weather fou this past week has bouu very
unsettled. There have been frequen showers,' but not heavy and cold' nights, and feed for nil kinds of stock is getti.ng scarce. The potato crop is turning out fairly. Hooping cough is still very bad amongst the children about here, some of the families having the whole of their children ill with it.
