THE PROPOSED NEW NATIVE UNDS ACT.

The Government propose to introduce another Native Lands Act next session. The Act passed last session enabled the Government to ascertain the nature of negotiations entered into by their predecessors. They find a large number of them too unprofitable to be worth completing. On some bhey will lose 15s. m the £. The new Act will appoint a oo»rt of native chiefs to investigate titles. When this is done they will call m a European judge, who will register their decisions. The land will then be sold m small blocks not exceeding a few thousand acres, and provisions will be introduced into the Act preventing the acquirement of large blocks by speculators.
