A PUBLIC GRIEVANCE.
Sin, — There is ati ornamental piece of ground opposite the Post Office, known as the Octagon. It is fairly fenced, and would he considered secure from, the trepass of most cattle, hut on more than one morning' the pair of horses belonging to a certain cartor may have heen seen m it, and had apparen'ly heen there all night. It is somewhat curious that acalf belonging to the same person took up its winter residence there last season, and probably he intends his horses to do so this winter. This piece of ground has bsou taken care of for some years past at considerable expense to the ratepayers, and it is hard that onu peroon should have the privilege of grazing m it at the risk of destroying the young trees which would otherwise m a couple of years become an ornament to this place. — I am, &c, " Newcastle."
