PIAKO.

The races came off on Monday, March 21st, in Messrs Motrin's paddooks, and were a great suocess. The first on the programme was the Hack Hurdle Race, which created some laughing, owing to the horses not being inclined to jump the hurdles After a wellcontested race, Hitohman's Lady came in first; Knox's Imagination, 2nd. Maiden Plate, of 7sovs. —For this race ten started. After a good race, Master won by two lengths; "W. Harp's Sattelite, 2nd ; Neill's Fanny, 3rd.

Piako Stakes.—Late in the Field, Ist; Gladstone, 2nd.

Pony Race.—Seven started. Honathan's Papara, Ist; Fanny, 2nd.

Maori Race—Gladstone, Ist; Papara, 2nd. Trotting Race.—This was a walk over for Kate. Consolation Stakes.—For this race four started, and kept well together After a game struggle Dick became the winner by a neck; Bob, 2. The foot sports were then got on the way. 400 Yards Flat Race.—Four started. Captain Joe Maorie, 1; Brindle, 2. Running High Jump.—Three entered. Pupura Maorie, 1. Running Long Jump.—Four entered. After some good jumping, Hitchman, 1, after a good jump of 18 feet 2 inches. 200 Yards viaidenßace.—Three started. After a good struggle, Atutua, 1; Hitchman, 2. This concluded the days amusements, and everyone went home after spending a very pleasant day. The shop of Mr Harp was entered, and money taken out of the till to the amount of 17s. in silver and about 3s. worth of coppers. It was lucky that the thieves did. not discover the cash box, as the bulk of the money was there and also some valuable papers. It is high time that we had a police constable stationed in the district now, as this sort of thing is getting rather too much.—Own Corbbspondent.
