CAPTURE OF SURNEYORS BY MAORIS. ROTORUA, Saturday. A party of surveyors were discovered surveying by moonlight m the neighbourhood of Horohoro, under the direction of messrs Moon and Drummond Bay. The Tuhourangi tribe hearing of it sent at night an armed party, who pounced on then, at dawa yesterday. They took forcible possession of al their instruments and baggage, and marched the whole party, under an armed escort, into Parekarangi Pah where I hear they are now detained close prisoners. The survey, it is believed, was being carried out without the authority of the officers of the Native Lands Court, but this remains to be seen. The native committee at Ohinemutu propose, it is rumoured, to banish the present hotelkeepers from Ohinemutu, on the grounds of not opening their rooms for the accomodation of natives, They demanded payment from Mr Morrison, of the Rotorur Hotel, on Saturday last, for permission to have his own premises photographed. A carved pole is about to be erected here by the same natives, to inaugurate a new era m this district, when the Maoris will resume full control
