(reuter's special telegrams.) SYDNEY, March 12. The case supposed to be small pox on the City of Sydney, is i\ot variola. The steamer is not yet released.
Cairns, m Queensland, has been visited by a great cyclone. Eight buildings were totally destroyed, and others were much impaired. The place is m ruins. No lives were lost.
MELBOURNE, March, 12 Colonel Glover arrived last night per Chimborazo, and there is a probability of an early telegraphic confrence. The diffrence between the Council and the Assembly is m a fair way of settlement. [special to press agency.] MELBOURNE, March 13
A warrant ior the month's ex penditure, under the^tsth section of the Constitution Act, was duly perfected yesterday by the signature of Audit Commissioners and the Governor, but it will not be acted on until it i*j seen whether a compromise cannot be effected between the two Houses by Tuesday next. On Thursday Mr Jenner will move m the Council " That a conference be sought by the .Assembly." The motion is likely to be earned, but the Council will, it is said, insist on the withdrawal of the item for payment of members from the Appropriation Bill as a peliminary to the conference.
