POETRY.
God is our poet, singing to our souls, In the deep silence of the stary night, When the hoarse thunder so sublimely rolls — Titanic utterance from the Infinite ! — When man exhales all odour and delight, Feasting the heart with melody divine, The eyes with, [radiance ! Listen and be
calm. • O ! the whole Universe is but a Psalm To spirits that adore the essence fine Which makes Creation so magnificent — Then be the mind — the soul — a holy shrine, And poetry and music, kindly given, Wings to soar upward ; they are also meant To cast on earth the bounteous love of Heaven. —
VIOTOB L. BEDINQFEELD. March Bth, 1878.
