After various false starts, Port-wine-hot got away with the lead, but after a quarter of a mile Gladys jumped ahead, and an exciting- struggle ensued. But Gladys had the speed, and sailed m an easy winner. Port-wine-hot and Chanticleer ran a hot race for second pl«ce, but Chanticleer swerving, lost by short head. Time : lrniu 24secs. At the start the' boy ridingMufti cut across the other two, amid, criss of " Cross ! Cross ! " and ' led by a length, the other two for a mile running- neck-and-neck. About a mile from home Opawa- stopped, and Resolution rac^d with Mufti. Coming up the straight they were running well together, bat Mufti got the place by half a length. A protest was immediately entered againgt Mufti for a cross, and al- ! lowed by the stewards, and the stakes were awarded to Resolution.
