LOCAL ENGINEERING TALENT.
Snt,— l have just read the report of the Alexandra meeting, m connection with the railway terminus, and I really feel sad when I think of the Government employing such gentlemen as Mr Stewart on as engineers on our railway works when there is so much engineering talent going to seed m the Waikato. Just think of a saving of two-thirds of the expense m the short distance between Ohaupo and Alexandra. "What would it have been through the whole colony? Evidently, such gentlemen as we read of could step on to the nearest hill, and, with a glance of the eye and a wave of the hand, lay out a line as far as the eye could reaoh, without levels or survey. Why— oh! why has their light been hid so long ? It makes me feel quite miserable.— l am, etc., Economist. I TTihnrihi. Feb. 20.
