THE RACE BALL.

The Annual Race ,Ball was held his : yeir, ! as last, m the large room 'n ..he Commercial H>tel, Hamilton, ■vbich was tastefully- decorated with fibbers, flags, aud evergreens. On tins occavsion, however, iuvitu.ions *ere not- issued generally tiu-ougaout the district, bui tickets ; vere <»uly procurable b r members oi he Turf Ohio, ami, tor lady visitor^ .ntroduced by the.v. The cousequence was that the room was less ; fdwded than last year, though quite as lull as was conveniently c >mfortablo for those present. Full as the Hotel was last nigh;, of travellers aud visitors to Waisato — and during the last few nights every room m the three ho. els has been double bedded and ' shakedowns' have beeu made all over the houses— Mr and Mrs Pearce did all m their power to make the company attending the ball as comfortable as possible. Convenient dressing rooms and attendance were provided, the upstairs drawing room set aside for card parties, and the bioad main staircase, aud landing above kept as a retiring place and promenade for fchosac mpleswho were either tired of duueiog or desired a little tele a iete conversation interesting only go themselves. The supper was laid out m the two parlours opposite the N ball room and was certainly as rcherchee and we'll appointed as the most fastidious espicure, need desire. but those who paid their devotions to the supper table came with the hearty appetites that, violent exercise iuduces, and, really if ladies could only know the amount ot ground they get over during a six .hours .dancing bout, especially where round dances preponderate, they would scarcely . believe themselves capable of so little fatigue as they do. The music was spirited* aud the dancing kept up with vigour till a : late hour m the morning. The band irtdeed was the same thai played at the last race ball, Mr Turre.ll, the pianist, being assisted by a cornet nnd violin.
