RAGLAN.
January 29,' W7BI * Pursuant to notioe, the two remainipg cottages' standing m this jiwnship were disposed of by public miction, by Mr William- PdweU, at' the Court House, on Saturday last- one ° f . „he cottages was knocked down to Mr Bush for .£2O, who, purchased the same tor a church for the Episcopalians. 'The other was purchased by Mj* Sutton for £26. Seven of the immigrant cottages have been given to the different schools, —After the cottages had been disposed of, the four allotments adjoining the Court House were put up. No. 1 was. leased by Mr Sutton for £3 7s 6d per annum. No. 2 and 3 were leased hy Mr j Pegler for tho upset price of £2 10s each per annum, and No. 4, hy Mr Bush, for | £2 10s per annum— the upset price. Con- j sidering that these allotments are only I leased for three years, the price appeals to hr* excessive, If ia a pity that the term cannot be extended. Rumour has it that Mr Cunningham, of Newmarket, is about to lay a steamer on the Raglan trade. It is said he is to receive a subsidy for a year. It is to be hoped the above rumour is correct,- and that tie vessel to be employed will turn out a suitable one for our trade, and be prepared to serve us m a manner which will be an advantage' both to the settlers and herself. Weather very muggy. Hope Kanoiis not going- to turn upside-down. The-, weather being so sultry, it is intended to forgo an election for a weighty man to fill the first "Mayor's" seat. Raglan, therefore, is willing to allow Hamilton to be the first Borough m the Waikato, and to remain itself a County Council, with 1 power to de — nothing I
