RAILWAY CATTLE TRUCKS.

The following was forwarded yesterday to this journal for publication : — Gambbtooe, Jan. 23, 1878. 'To the Editor of the Waikato Times, Hamilton.) Si&,— Herewith I enclose you for publication, correspondence which has taken plaoe between the Cambridge Farmers' Club and the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, in reference to placing cattle trucks on the Auokland and Waikato Railway. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your obedient servant, Hekby Bum-. [OOP?.] Cambridge Farmers' Club, Cambridge, Deo. 31, 1877. To the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, Wellington. Sir, — I have the honor to inform you that, at a meeting of the Cambridge Farmers' Club, held on the 18th instant, the following resolution was passed, viz.: — " That the Secretary do write to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, requesting that trucks suitable for the conveyance of cattle be immediately placed on the Auokland and Waikato Railway, and also that convenient yards for the shipment of sheep and cattle be erected at Hamilton and Ohaupo." In connection with the above, I am requested to state that, with a reasonable rate of freight and with conveniences erected for putting the cattle into the trucks, the estimated number that might be conveyed bv rail is from 8,000 to 10,000 per annum. Sir, — I am directed by the Hon. the Minister for Public Works to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 31st of December, urging the desirability of placing cattle trucks on the Auckland and Waikato Railway, and in reply tc inform you that the same has been referred to the head of the Constructed Railways Department with a . view to compliance therewith, if circumstances .will permit.
