Ik prospect of the forthcoming match to played with the Anglo- Australian team, the Hon. Secretary of the Intercolonial Match Committee has forwarded the following letter to the Secretary of the Zingari dub: — Box 66, Post Office» Auckland, Jan. 8, 1878. Dear Sib, — Will you be good enough tc to bring under the notice of all cricketer resident m the "W&ikato District, the subject of coming match proposed to b( played with the Anglo-Australian Team, on or about the first week m February. And, should any of your players wish t( ■ take part m such match, you will kindly ' submit the names of four or five as earl;, as possible. — Tours faithfully, D. B. McDonald, Hon. Sec. International Cricket Match Committee. Alluding to this match, the ' Auckland Star' of Thursday says: — "We observe with pleasure that energetic measures are , being taken to get together the very bet. Auckland Twenty-two against the Eleven of Australia, expected here at the begining of next month. An influential General Committee is being formed, whiob will comprise our principal citizens ; while the Selection Committee have deputed tc three of their number, viz., Messrs J. Bennet, D. B. Macdonald, and W. Robin- } son, the especial charge of the practice*. We hear that these are at last to be conducted on the plan we have so long and so often advocated. Practices with nets, and half-a-score of bowlers, no fielding and running, are to be things of the past : and from henceforth they are to be conducted on the same principle as a regular match. The men will take their places m the field by order from a captain, and the runs will be scored and a record kept U assist the final selection. Everyone whr wishes to play m the match 'will thus se< that it is to his interest to shewnpai practice as often as possible. The practices will be held m the Domain, anc will commence at 4 p.m. every day.
