RAGLAN.
December 31st 1877. To-day a friendly game of cricket took place at Raglan between the settler* of Ruapuke and theme residing m the other portions of the district. The Ruapukeans mustered strongly, whereas their opponents were several men short, who«e pi ces had to be filled by >ome of the spare Ruapuke men and natives. To equalise thsides, one of the bowlers of the town end team was •given to the Ruapukeans. Annexed is the score, from which it will be seen thatihe Ruapukeans w>r« victorious, the game being decided on the first innings, owing to their boing no time to con inue it. A return match, to be played m Mr Hill's pad* dock, at Ruapuke, was arranged for en Wednesday neit. It is to be h^ped on that occasion fortune will favour this end of the district. At a meeting held on the ground subsequently to the game, it was proposed I* challenge the Ngaruawahia Ciub to play a friendly game on or about the end of January. We sincerely hope their other engagements will permit th"tn to visit Raglan, and teach us how to play cricket a little more scientifically than we are at present able to do.
