The sports com. menced with the Maiden race, 200 yards. —J. Mcl-Tenzie, Ist ; George Primrose, 2nd. Boys' Race, under 16, 200 yards. -*-Lovell, Tsfc ; A Pottery 2nd. "Hop, Step, and Jump.— McNei-ih. Half-mile Eace. -Six started ; MoNeish, Ist; Cubis, 2nd. Boys' Race, under 12,.— 19 started; T. Pearson. Ist: F. Odium, 2nd. Running High Jump. — McNeisb, Ist, 4ft. Bin. 100 Yards Race.— This was a very close affair, and ended, Mc Neish Ist ; J. McKenzie 2nd. Mile Handicap. Seven emries.but after the first lap it lay between O'Brien Ist J. Healey, 2nd Trotting Race. — 7 entries; AJI got away well together ;' Shejitoa^ came m first, but a profesfc, v.«s lodged, and confirmed byvtho stewards, so that the race was given m favour of Karr's Topsy, which came m second Hurdle Race, 440 Yardn.— McNeish, Ist ; Primrose, 2nd. Three-legged Race (no en fries but Maoris).,— Char. ie andHone,lst. £-Mile Flat Race,— J. McKenzie, Ist ; F. Vincent, 2nd. Vaulting with Pole. — There was a very hard tussle for first place, which was eventually t.ken by F. Pilling ; height, Blt. 4in. Wheelbarrow Race. — T. Peacock, Ist ; Gr. Reed, jun., 2nd. Girls' Race. — R. Sla.er, Ist : — . O'Neil, 2nd. Old Man's Race.— G. Reel, sen.. Ist; McPberson, 2nd. Sack Race.— G. Reed, jun., Ist ; H. McKenzie, 2nd. Maori Waniue Race. — This race was very well run, and caused much amusement. The greasy pig cause I much amusement and scrambling, and piggy was at last caught b> Fi zgeraid. There were no competitors for the greasy pole. This ended the day's amusemeut and the day itself, for it was fully dusk when the sports closed.
