Major Atkinson spoke for two hours last night,: making an exhaustive ciiticismbf the details rot" Mr Larnach's statement, but however careful not to .touch on the policy of the present especially in regard to the generalisation of the land fund. Sir George Grey replied eloquently, but could not so weVlgrapple wii-h E figures. Mr G. McLean followed dehouucing the generalisation of the land fund as robbery of Otago and GJanterbury. No motion was made and the debate was adjourned till tomorrow.
RUMOURED OPPOSITION TACTICS. Last night rumours were current that Mr Stafford would to-morrow move a motion equivalent to want of confidence, but if this w-s ever intended it is hopeless, as this morning a caucus of five or six Auckland Members of the Opposi tion,; including Messrs Whicakt-r, Cox and Tawiti met, and are resolved to * offer no further opposition to the Ministry this Session. ,'Mr WhiUker leaves for Auckland ; to-./ morrow, arid it is understood..does: not ask a pair. It is, therefore*-all up with the Opposition, aril the session will probably end in ten days' or a fortnight. ' '
