At a meeting of the Board of Education, a letter was read fiom Father Binstead, giving the names of six Catholic Children who he said had been caned by the master of the school for not doing- Bible lessons. In some cases this is said to have been done after the parents had given notice that their children should not take part m the lessons. The Board ordered a full inquiry into the matter. Last night. The jury could not agree to a verdict m Proudfoot's case, and wero discharged. The matter will now be referred to the Govern raeut to decide what shall be done. A bush fire, caused by men lightiug a fire to boil a billy, destroyed four cottages. Trump Card is a hot favourite for the Derby ; Mata for the Cup and Handicap. Graiiamstown, last night.
