,Sic,-— A iilong letter, contairung 'a not very flattering reference to your Wliata-' whata correspondent, written by tk'e late Ranger, appeared ill your issue of the 30.h. ■ Without wishing to go at length into the mailer, I 1 Would like the la'e , ranger, to explain where his deputy was L when'a fldck of sheep were grazing m .that' peaceful hamlet, Ss I was present iat a-meeting of the settlers to>, appoint a depifty ranger to remove the said sheep, : and, no .one at that meeting' seemed to lie aware that there wasßUQh an individual as a deputy ranger. The late ranger, however, accuses me of losing sight of 'the truth, &c. , The other informatiou 'contained m my labt letter respecting the difßcu.!ty^[ of impounding cattle" off the WhafaWiata runy was' obtained from one ' who 'hM bedn a ranger 'for the Newcastle Highway Board, and therefore shoul • TnfyW/' There' was 'no intention -whatever to" reflect Upon the late ranger,' bur. he has evidently constiued my letter into a personal attack upon himself, ; and 'has endeaVbufed 'to repay' me ! in similar coin.—.
