MR W. ROWE, M.H.R., ON THE AUCKLAND WASTE LANDS BOARD.
Speaking on the Lands Bill, Mr Rowe is reported by ' Hansard ' to have said : — Ib has been my fortune to come into contact with the Auckland Waste Lands Board on one or two occasions. Their proceedings have no doubt been watched very closely. There is somehow a very great tendency m Government nominees to become autocrats. They have no sympathy with, the people, and they do not study the wants of the people. In the district from which I come, applications have been made for years. Although the purchases were not complete, and are not yet completed, still the people were anxious to settle on their land 3 and formed themselves into associa* fcions for that purpose, subscribed money for it, and applied to the v ' Government with regard to it.
