The Waikato Times.

tiqual and exact justice to all men. 01 whatever state or persuasion, religious o political . * * # * "■ • ■ Llere shall the Presi the People's right maintain, Unaweil by influence and unbribed by Rain

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1877

Political excitement at ■Wellington has drifted into a; side eddy. The Government and Opposition parties like man and wife who quarrelling with each other never so hotly will turn together and assail anyone interfering with either— have proclaimed an armistice till they have settled with the common foe, and are engaged tooth and nail with the Governor m defence of their constitutional rights. Lord Normanby has refused to appoint Mr Wilson, of Napier, to a seat m the Legislative Council at the recommendation of the Cabinet, because as he asserts that Cabinet is at present on its trial. This, of course, trenches on the preogative of the Ministry, and of the House and as such is resented by men of all parts. After ihe privilege Committee has brought up the report, the enemy's cnnis* will again open fire upon either side, but the delay may seriously alter the position of parties. We were told m a late telegram that .Messrs Maaders and Burns were not pledged beyond Tuesday last to vote with the Opposition, but like other promissory notes we presume they were open to be renewed, and have been, foi we do not hear of them as having been dishonored. SiAU, delay must tell m favour of the Government, and the division, when ir, does come will probably be all the closer.
