ISLE FORK3HOKE AT CAMBRIDGE. A letter was read from the secretary to the Oambrioge Farmers' Club relative to the wharf or foreshore of Cambridge being monopolized by the Waikato Steam .Navigation Company to the great inconvenience of tne settlers generally. The Chairman stated that he had written a letter to the Colonial SeoieUry, asking the Government to baud over the foreshore and other reserves at Cambridge to tne County, m order that they uiigtit ue utilized, but, that no reply had been received. Indeed, with tnu exception of matters of a purely formal character, the Government appear to have shelved all business, and devote their whole attention to the struggle for office. The Cierk was ordered, to write again to Mr Cooper, so that, by next meeting, tht> Council might be m a position to deal with the complaint of the Cambridge settlers. SLAUGHTER HOUSE. An application made by Mr Potter, of Hamilton East, for leave to slaughter Cattle at Mr uassidy's yards, until his own are erected, was granted from the 15th September, inclusive. The Council resolved to apply to the G ivernment for a piece of ground as a permanent site for the Council Chamber, and the Chairman brought before the Council a representation made to him by Mr T H White of Taupiri, relative to the 2nd section of the County By-laws, whereby any person convicted of slaughtering cuttle for sale or barter without a license, was subject to a penalty of £5. Mr White suggested that as a person might by inadverteuce be led to commie tn? oifence above referred i© that the council should amend the by-law ||by inserting the words, ' not exceeding,' so as to give the magistrate tbe power to inflict a line of less amount tbau £5. Councillors did not quite see how apes, son could slaughter a beast and sell the meat inadvertently, but apart from that, any alteration m the by-laws is attended with mnoh expense, and as the Government have or should be about to pass a new Act to regulate the alaugetering of cattle throughout the colony, which very probably may necessitate an entire revision of by -laws, it was resolved to postpone the consideration of the question. CAMBBIDGtU-HAHILTOtf ROAD. A letter was read from the secretary to the Cambridge Highway Board, m which they requested the Council to grant, absolutely, a sum of £160, to complete the gravelling of the Cambridge* Hamilton road. Councillors Kirkwood and Ciurk urged upon the Council the desirability of this being granted but not for the purpose above stated. » They were of the opinion, and believed that a majority of their constituents wonld agree with them m appropriating the money to aid m opening up a. new road from Cambridge to Piako, but as they wished to make quite sure of the feeling m the matter they (the Cambridge Councilors) stated that before next meet* ing they would definitely ascertain the wish 68 of the Cambridge Bet tiers, and make a motion accordingly. The question was therefore postponed. : The Chairman xave notice that m accordance with the Counties Act, 1876, the next meeting would be the annual meeting for the election of a chairman, and ag required by the Act would be held on the fourth Wednesday (23th November). He trusted thera would be a full attendance of Councillors*
