The Auckland '.Star' Special Correspondent telegraphs : London; Monday afternoon, 4 o'clock :— : Fighting has continued m Shipka Pass and its approaches for the last sixteeen days, Sulteman Pasha being engaged there when it was believed m Constantinople that he had parsed to north of the Balkans. The Turkish army under Sulieman numbered 35,000. The Russian forces holding the heights andgorges amounted.ohly to 15,003. Many dashing assaults were made by the Turks with * heavy loss. Seven thousand Russians were killed and mauy thousands wounded. The Russians maintain their position. The Imperial Guard is to be cmi- loyed on skirmishing duty m the neighbourhood of Rustchuk. The Turks carried all tne Russian positions at fiatoum on the 19th. Powerful Russian reinforcements are proceeding by forced marches to Armenia. All available Turkish troops m Constantinople are leaving for Adrianople. The Russians never crossed the Balkans at Klopka, bub at Demer kapa Pass. Bismaick declares that mediation is now accually impossible.
